Reefton’s new public toilets opening this week
The new purpose-designed toilet block on Broadway in Reefton will open on Wednesday 16 November from 6am.
Buller District Council’s group manager community services Krissy Trigg says: “It is great to see this project coming to completion, with the toilets ready for locals and summer traffic coming into Reefton.
There will be an official opening on 6 December, tying in with the upcoming Inangahua Community Board meeting”.
The information panels and artifacts that were situated with the old toilets will be reinstalled with the new toilet building.
Council would like to thank all the local contractors and workers involved in bringing this project to completion.
Background:
Buller based architect Carrynne Scarlett worked with prefabricated toilet manufacturer Permaloo on the historic inspired design of the new toilet block.
Other contractors involved in the project were Rosco Contractors Ltd, All About Sewer, Electronet Services, Avant Build Cost Solutions Ltd, and Westport Hire.
The toilets feature modern fixtures and fittings that are durable, easy to clean, and offer wheelchair access.
The cost for the project totals $440,000, with $240,000 paid out of MBIE’s Tourism Infrastructure Funding, which council secured at no cost to ratepayers. The remaining $200,000 is funded by council.
