Coast Employment Expo hits Westport tomorrow

13 May 2024

Westport’s Clocktower Chambers will be a hive of activity between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm tomorrow when the Coast Employment Expo hits town.

The event is a joint initiative between Development West Coast and the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs teams from both Buller and Grey Districts. It is an interactive showcase which aims to bring together jobseekers, businesses and employers from key local industries.

The event will present the wide range of employment options and pathways available right here on the coast – all jobseekers, schools, rangatahi and the wider community are most welcome to attend.

Buller Mayor Jamie Cleine says: “We have over 40 local businesses lined up to attend this inaugural expo. It’s a great opportunity for jobseekers and their whanau to come down and chat to prospective employers. It also provides businesses looking for staff a chance to let locals know about potential employment openings.”

Buller’s Mayors Taskforce for Jobs Co-ordinator Julie Moore says: “We want to showcase the business and job opportunities available on the Coast, with emphasis on the people that want to stay in the area. We want to show them how they can rise through the ranks of those jobs. It’s not just about what jobs are available now; it’s about showing people what you can do by staying here.”

Entry to the expo is free of charge. A second expo with its own local focus will be held in Greymouth on Thursday 16 May.
