Toki Bridge opening now 30 March
The Toki Poutangata Bridge opening day has been pushed back again due the emergency works and priority water supply repairs involving key contractors and suppliers.
Westport and other localities in the Buller district were hit hard with extreme rainfall, flooding, property and infrastructure damage during February this year, following on from the July 2021 event.
In particular, WestReef Services and their subcontractors have been fully committed to restoring and sustaining essential lifelines for local communities, including roading networks and water supplies.
Group manager infrastructure services Mike Duff says: “The efforts of so many people have been extraordinary in these very challenging times. Critical infrastructure such as Westport water has been badly damaged and still remains vulnerable until long term solutions are in place. Our attention is currently focused on those priorities, and an additional two weeks for Toki will provide some much-needed breathing space.”
The opening date has been rescheduled to 30 March and will be held jointly with Ngāti Waewae and our other project partners.
