UPDATE: Denniston Road slip requires further assessment
UPDATE: 09.01.24 at 1.58 pm
Heavy vehicle restrictions have been removed, but nightly closures (8pm to 7am) remain in place until at least 15.01.24
Nightly road closures are still in effect from 8 pm each day following the slip on the Denniston Road last Sunday, but the road will now reopen earlier each day, at 7am.
The slip site is approximately 1.3 kilometres along the road from the base of the hill at Waimangaroa.
Contractors have been working to clear the remaining material at the slip site, but a geotechnical inspection is required. This geotechnical engineering inspection is now scheduled for Thursday 11 January.
Denniston Road will continue to be closed from 8 pm to 7 am every night until at least 7 am Monday 15 January, with traffic able to travel through the site via single lane traffic management that will be in place during the day.
Council will update all road users and affected parties when the results of this week’s inspection are known.
Council apologises for any inconvenience to road users.
