Mayors Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) is a nationwide network of New Zealand’s Mayors and the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) working together towards the vision of all young people under 25 being engaged in appropriate education, training, work, or other positive activity in their communities.
MTFJ runs advocacy projects and aims to partner with best-practice organisations to promote the economic well-being of young people.

Mayor's Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ)
Mayor's Taskforce for Jobs has partnered with the Ministry of Social Development to lead the Community Employment Programme.
This programme places young people not in education, employment, or training (NEETs) under the age of 25, people living with disabilities and other disadvantaged people into work.
The partnership is changing the face of local government and reinforcing that councils, led by their Mayors, are well placed and connected to their communities to facilitate local employment outcomes.
They have the 'boots on the ground', the local knowledge and expertise necessary to create solutions to the challenges that face their individual communities.
Each council has a localised programme, which is unique to their region's key industries and challenges.
MTFJ is based at Buller REAP in Palmerson St, Westport. The Programme Coordinator is Julie Moore and Ruby Eriksen is the Pastoral Care support, working alongside the job seekers.
MTFJ's funding is flexible, which means that a locally-based, individualised approach is taken when supporting job seekers who are settling into work.
To help job seekers become employment-ready, MTFJ can provide financial assistance to cover the cost of any tools, uniforms, driver licencing, PPE and mental health support that is necessary.
All councils involved in the programme work closely with the Ministry of Social Development to ensure that there is no duplication of services or resources.
MTFJ is working with Buller District Council to encourage young adults to think rural when it comes to work and lifestyle options.
Think Rural is a nationwide initiative, with eighteen rural districts signed up. The goal is to contribute towards filling 1,150 jobs in rural areas with young people wanting to experience a new way of life.
The campaign is driven by Local Government New Zealand’s (LGNZ) Mayors Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ), with support from the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).
